For great cricket, follow the Bears

Warwickshire wrapped up the County Championship last week with a resounding win in the West Midlands derby against Worcestershire, and with it confirmed their place as County Champions.

2012 Champions

The lads from Edgbaston fully deserved their title, and seeing as they are fans of The Middle Stump, may we pass on our congratulations to Rikki, Pop, Chops and the boys and may Steffan Piolet have danced the night away after a couple of beers!

To be fair, the Bears have been the best side in the country for two years and should have won the title last year. Even without Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott, some of their players have produced England form this year, which is one of the reasons why they have won with such consummate ease.

Chops...England call up?

The form of Rikki Clarke at the start of the year was why he was England material at the start of his career, and his hundred back in May from number nine was full of shots as handsome as the man himself! Varun Chopra has been a rock at the top of the order, and surely it must be a tight call who goes to India between him and Joe Root?

The third member of the Essex exodus to Edgbaston (albeit Clarke was only born there) is Chris Wright and his wickets are another reason why the Bears won the league. The Middle Stump boys are now bored of singing the praises of Chris Woakes, he should have been in the England side for the South African series, and again with bat and ball he proved he should be playing at a higher level. The other bowler to have really caught the eye is Keith Barker, and the ex professional footballer released by Blackburn has been a revelation. A surprise opening attack of him and Wright have really done the business, and the left armer Barker has been brilliant since swapping Ewood for Edgbaston.

Wright...this is how you move on the dance floor Steffan

With Ian Westwood scoring as many runs as the amount of words that his namesake Tim talks shit, you can see why it was an all round performance that led Warwickshire to be county champions for 2012. You could sense the team spirit amongst them when we spoke to them back in July, and it was this close bond that helped them towards the title.

It will take a decent side to stop them next year no doubt as well!
